DENTAL FILLING

Dental filling is the most common dental procedure that help restore the function, integrity, and morphology of missing tooth structure damaged and also to improve your cosmetic appearance.

Reason for needing a filling
The reason to have dental filling is because of tooth damaged by decay or external trauma. Your teeth should be regularly checked for signs of decay, and cleaned by a dentist, so any decay can be dealt with as early as possible. This prevent the decay from spreading further into your tooth and, if untreated continue on to the inner pulp tissue located in the root canal. When it happens you will need root canal treatment.

What type of filling do we have?
There are a variety of filling material available including silver, composite, and porcelain.

  • Silver (amalgam) – use for more than a century, dental amalgam are strong, tolerant to wear, and an inexpensive choice than other material. However, due to the dark color, it also quite noticeable and not recommended for filling in very visible area.
  • Composite – are popular choice for those who don’t want their filling showed. They usually only last between 3 and 10 years. They may not be ideal for large fillings as they may chip or wear over time. They can also become stained from coffee or tea.
  • Porcelain – usually for inlay or onlay material that are made outside the mouth (dental laboratory) and then bonded to the tooth. They can be matched to the color of the tooth and resist staining.
