ROOT CANAL TREATMENT (ENDODONTIC)
What is root canal treatment?
Underneath your tooth’s outer enamel and within the dentin is an area of soft tissue called pulp tissue. It contains nerve fiber, arteries, veins, and connective tissue.
Root canal treatment (Perawatan Saluran Akar) is a treatment needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth is infected through decay.
Sometimes deep restoration or trauma to a tooth may cause the nerve damage to the point it needs root canal treatment also.
Why is root canal treatment needed?
If the pulp infected, it must be treated and cannot heal on its own. Without treatment, the infection may spread through the root canal system of the tooth and will begin to degenerate the surrounding bone as well possibly causing the tooth need to be taken out.
Usually, you will experience severe pain upon chewing or pressure, prolonged sensitivity to hot/cold or sweet, discoloration of tooth, swelling of the nearby gums and recurrent pimple on the gums.
What is involved in the root canal treatment?
Root canal treatment involves removing the damaged pulp, cleaning and reshaping the root canal, and finally filling the root canal with gutta-percha, a rubber-like material to prevent re-contamination of the tooth.
A core build-up and crown is recommended for restoring the tooth after root canal treatment to strengthen its structure and improve its appearance.
