What is crown and bridge?
Crown and bridge (multiple units of crown) are used to replace part or all of our visible tooth. They not only strengthen the teeth but also improve tooth’s appearance, shape, and alignment. Crown can be used to:

  • Restore teeth from excessive decay when there is little tooth structure remaining
  • Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
  • Attach bridge
  • Restore a cracked tooth
  • Replace a missing teeth
  • Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment
  • Cover a discolored tooth

A bridge is an alternative to partial denture. It fills the space created by missing teeth due to loss or extraction. The teeth from either side are used to literally create a bridge to cross the area where the tooth is missing. The bridge will avoid the antagonistic and adjacent teeth shift and causing problem with bite and gums later.

Dental crown and bridge can be made from variety different material. It can be made from metal, porcelain, or porcelain fused to metal. The option for these material is depend on the reason for needing a crown, the condition and location of the tooth that need a crown.

What does the treatment consist of?
On the first visit the tooth will be prepared by filing down the enamel so the crown can be placed over it. Once the tooth has been prepared, an impression of that tooth will be taken using an elastic material. The impression will be sent to dental lab and before leaving a temporary acrylic crown is fitted over the prepared tooth.

During the preparation stage, we will note the color of the teeth either side of the tooth which crown will be fitted and ensure that the color of our custom crown is matched with your natural teeth. Once received, the new crown is cemented or bonded onto the prepared tooth.
